Grey water — household wastewater from sinks, showers and laundry — is a large, often-wasted resource. This study assessed how well Moringa oleifera seed extract can clean it, both as a coagulant and an antimicrobial agent.
Filtered and unfiltered grey water was treated with moringa seed extract at 50, 100 and 150 mg/L, and key indicators — BOD, turbidity, electrical conductivity (EC) and total dissolved solids (TDS) — were measured.
Key findings
- BOD removal rose with dose: 65.7%, 67.1% and 80.1% at 50, 100 and 150 mg/L.
- Turbidity removal averaged 97.4% for filtered grey water at 150 mg/L.
- TDS was cut by about 91.5% and EC by ~27% at the higher doses.
Caveat: a dose-response study on grey water; performance depends on the specific water and extract preparation.
