Moringa Seed vs Poly-Aluminium Chloride for Nile Water Purification

This study, carried out at the Wad Medani Waterworks in Sudan, compared Moringa oleifera seed against the common synthetic coagulant poly-aluminium chloride (PAC) for purifying Blue Nile water — directly testing whether the natural option can compete with the industrial standard.

Four samples (raw water, whole moringa seed powder, hexane-extracted moringa cake, and PAC) were compared using the standard jar test.

Key findings

Why it matters for MORIFA: A head-to-head win against the industry-standard chemical — with no chloride or pH side-effects — is a strong selling point. It positions moringa seed and the de-oiled cake as a cleaner alternative for water utilities and rural supply.

Caveat: a single-site jar-test comparison; full-scale adoption depends on dosing logistics and consistent seed supply.
