Understanding exactly what is in moringa — and how active it is — underpins every health claim. This study provided a comprehensive phytochemical and antioxidant profile of Moringa oleifera.
Using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS) for composition, and multiple assays (DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, CUPRAC, phosphomolybdenum) for antioxidant capacity, the team characterised the plant in detail.
Key points
- Moringa is rich in calcium, vitamins A and C, protein, potassium and iron — valuable against child malnutrition.
- Detailed UHPLC-MS profiling mapped its bioactive compounds.
- Multiple assays confirmed strong antioxidant potential.
Caveat: values depend on plant material and method; in-vitro antioxidant measures.
