Measuring Moringa’s Key Flavonoids: Myricetin, Quercetin and Kaempferol

2018

Moringa’s antioxidant power comes largely from flavonoids — and quantifying them precisely matters for quality control and product claims. This study developed a method to measure the key flavonoids in Moringa oleifera leaves.

Using reverse-phase ion-pairing HPLC (at 370 nm) and following International Conference on Harmonisation guidelines, the team optimised extraction to maximise the yield of myricetin, quercetin and kaempferol.

Key points

Why it matters for MORIFA: Quantifying named flavonoids by validated HPLC is exactly the analytical substantiation that quality-conscious supplement and ingredient buyers want behind our antioxidant claims.

Caveat: an analytical-method study; flavonoid levels vary with material and method.
