Clean drinking water remains out of reach for many rural communities, often because existing purification methods are too costly or too technical. This study, in the open-access journal Scientific African, developed a simple, low-cost method built on Moringa oleifera seed.
Moringa seed powder (from locally obtained seeds) was used as a natural coagulant and flocculant to clarify turbid river water, combined with copper as an antibacterial agent to destroy pathogens such as E. coli.
