This study compared Moringa oleifera seed extract against alum across a wide set of drinking-water quality parameters, using domestic water samples from Ikole-Ekiti, Nigeria.
Moringa seed extract was added to collected water samples, which were then tested in the laboratory against twelve quality parameters and compared with alum.
Key findings
- Moringa seed extract improved odour, total solids, turbidity, pH, nitrate, chloride, hardness, iron and sulphate in the water samples.
- Treated water reached levels that met drinking-water standards.
- It performed comparably to alum across the parameter panel.
Caveat: a localized comparative study; performance varies with the source water treated.
