Moringa’s composition varies by where it is grown — important to understand for consistent products. This open-access IJMS study performed a detailed nutritional characterization and phenolic profiling of Moringa oleifera leaves from three regions: Chad, Sahrawi refugee camps and Haiti.
It also investigated two pharmacologically active phenolic acids — salicylic and ferulic acid — whose presence in moringa had been little studied.
Key findings
- Leaves were rich in protein, minerals and beta-carotene, with quercetin among the phenolics.
- Regional differences in composition were clearly observed.
- The study confirmed pharmacologically active salicylic and ferulic acids.
Caveat: composition varies by origin and conditions; values are sample-specific.
