Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by high sugar levels in the bloodstream causing a number of distressing symptoms. Diabetes afflicts the affected person not only from a metabolically harmful side, but also from serious complications such as heart disease, chronic kidney failure and retinal damage. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this problem, but a change in a healthy lifestyle, combined with natural medicinal supplements such as Moringa Tea, can help a lot in reducing the harmful symptoms of diabetes and making the rest of your life uncomfortable.
What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is known as a metabolic disease characterized by high blood sugar levels, either because the pancreas gland does not produce enough insulin or the body’s cells do not respond properly to the insulin it produces.
Diabetes can be divided into three types:
1. Type 1 Diabetes
In this condition, the body makes very little or no insulin. Although it can occur at any age, children and adolescents are more likely to experience it.
2. Type 2 Diabetes
This type of diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance which occurs when the body’s cells stop responding to insulin produced by the pancreas gland. Adults are more prone to this problem mainly because of obesity.
3. Gestational Diabetes
When a woman who has not had diabetes previously developed high blood sugar during pregnancy, she is said to have gestational diabetes, which may be a symptom for type 2 diabetes.
Diet for Diabetes
Diabetes is classified as a metabolic disorder, metabolism which refers to the way our body uses digested food to supply energy and growth. Most of what we consume is broken down into glucose which enters and flows in the bloodstream. However, to make this transition possible, the body needs insulin.
In simple terms, it can be described that the food we digest is converted into glucose for cell function. Glucose needs help from insulin to penetrate cell walls because it cannot enter itself. Insulin therefore acts as a regulator of glucose metabolism in the body. If insulin is deficient or becomes sensitive, it will lead to diabetes. Untreated diabetes will lead to complications such as retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy, cardiovascular problems etc.
Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas. A person who has diabetes has a condition where the amount of glucose is high in their blood, because their body doesn’t produce enough insulin, doesn’t produce insulin, or has cells that don’t respond to the insulin it produces.
Because blood sugar is a central issue in diabetes, many people living with diabetes choose to modify their diet to avoid large spikes in blood sugar. In fact, many also choose not to consume sugar, avoid large portions of fruits, whole grains, and starches, and also switch to a high-fat diet. More dependence on fat for energy allows people living with diabetes to consume the energy they need, without worrying about overloading their system with high blood sugar levels.
Of course, not all fat is created equal. As most diabetics are well aware, healthy fats usually have a high percentage of oleic acid. Oleic acid is an Omega-9 fatty acid that has been noted for its ability – among other important things – to help reduce the body’s resistance to insulin and regulate blood sugar levels. Oleic acid is the main ingredient in Moringa Tea, which contains about 75% oleic acid and is the most widely available source of oleic acid.
